Number of spam in my mailbox this morning?

18.

You might think that teaching at a Tech school with a top ranked CS department would mean that your IT department would filter this stuff better than gmail or hotmail, but it doesn't.

Why would the be? Gmail is run by Google, there's no way your IT people are as cutting-edge as that, especially since they have a collection of IT systems to administer 24-7 for a very demanding crowd. Google, on the other hand, hires people not for crisis management but to push the frontier of what will build their brand and provide oppotunities to make money/addict more users.
